BEFORE & AFTER EXAMPLES

What's being corrected:

  • Levels of background noise and room ambience.

  • Unpleasant mouth sounds.

  • Sounds being too harsh, tinny, muddy or fatiguing.

  • Volume consistency so that the voice can always be heard (important when listening in noisy environments such as cars).

  • Distracting filler words such as "umm" and "uhhh".

  • Disjointed and hesitant sentences that break up the flow of dialogue.

*If you can, it's best to listen to these through headphones.

Before - Laptop Recording
00:00 / 00:21
After - Laptop Recording
00:00 / 00:13

The main issue I've fixed here is the excess reverb, which makes the voice sound clearer and less amateur. I've also removed a lot of the hesitations and filler words which disrupt the flow of dialogue. Unfortunately, a recording like this can never end up sounding like a voice you might hear on the radio. But, it can be significantly improved to the point where the listener isn't distracted by its flaws.

Before - Host & Guest
00:00 / 00:26
After - Host & Guest
00:00 / 00:25

The first thing I corrected here is the speakers' voices overlapping each other, which makes it easier to understand what the other is saying in that moment. Another problem is that the host has a lot of mouth clicks, where we can hear the saliva in her mouth in an overbearing way, so I've removed that. I've also removed a big hesitation near the end, where the guest has to pause and then restart her sentence.

Before - Female Voice
00:00 / 00:39
After - Female Voice
00:00 / 00:31

The first thing I took care of in this example is the voice sounding quite thin and tinny. After listening for a while, it was becoming fatiguing and unpleasant to listen to, so notice how the "after" example sounds more mellow. There is also a lot of hesitation near the beginning of the clip, so I took that out to leave the dialogue feeling more concise.
