BEFORE & AFTER EXAMPLES

Between the before and after examples, these are the things being corrected:

  • Levels of background noise and room ambience.

  • Unpleasant mouth sounds.

  • Sounds being too harsh, tinny, muddy or fatiguing.

  • Ensuring volume consistency so that the voice can always be heard (important when listening in noisy environments such as cars).

  • Removing distracting filler words such as "umm" and "uhhh".

  • Correcting disjointed and hesitant sentences that break up the flow of dialogue.

*If you can, it's best to listen to these through headphones.

Before - Laptop Recording
00:00 / 00:21
After - Laptop Recording 3
00:00 / 00:14

The main issue here is there's too much reverb, which makes the voice sound unclear and amateur. The speaker is also hesitating and repeating a lot of filler words, which disrupts the flow of dialogue. Unfortunately a recording like this can never end up sounding like a voice you might hear on the radio. But, it can be significantly improved to the point where the listener isn't distracted by its flaws.

Before - Host & Guest
00:00 / 00:25
After - Host & Guest
00:00 / 00:25

In this clip, one of the first things we can notice is the speakers' voices overlapping each other, which makes it hard to understand what the other is saying in that moment. Another problem is that the host has a lot of mouth clicks, where we can hear the saliva in her mouth in an overbearing way. There's also a big hesitation near the end, where the guest has to pause and then restart her sentence.

Before - Female Voice
00:00 / 00:31
After - Female Voice
00:00 / 00:31

The first thing to notice in this example is how harsh and tinny the voice sounds. After listening for a while, it becomes fatiguing and unpleasant to listen to. There is also a lot of hesitation near the beginning of the clip. Listen for how much softer and warm the voice sounds in the after example, and how concise the dialogue feels with the hesitations removed.
